The Bernese Mountain Dog in 2015 is now #29 up from #32 in 2014 of the AKC Favorite Dog list up from #47 in 2003. It is one of four dogs that worked in the Swiss Mountains and is the only one with a long and silky coat. It was named for the Canton of Bern. They were used for pulling carts to market, driving cattle and watching the farm and being a great companion dog. The Bernese Mountain Dog was brought to the United States in 1926 and AKC recognition in 1937.
